I doubt you will ever find another one of these! This is a menu from the 20th Annual National Encampment held in San Francisco from August 4th through the 6th, 1886 . This features a military themed scene printed on silk and mounted to GAR card stock. A lone soldier stands guard on a hill next to an artillery piece overlooking the water. A single ship sails off in the distance with several sibley tents off to the right. The underside of the silk scene is actually padded giving it a raised effect and lifting it off of the card stock. Attached to the silk pad is a small metal badge depicting Redwood trees and a bear, symbols synonymous with California. The badge itself reads, “1886 GAR Souvenir California”. When opened it reveals the meal the men were fed while at the encampment. Talk about a meal! These guys ate like kings! These early California GAR pieces are almost unheard of. Measures 8″ x 5 1/2″. Super unique piece.
