Very nice carte view of an unidentified musician with the 5th New York Light Artillery known as the “1st Excelsior Light Artillery”. This was formerly part of the Michael McAfee collection. Studio pose of this young bugler dressed in his musician’s service jacket with herring bone trim adorning the front of the jacket. His cap is worn with brass artillery insignia pinned to the top with the numeral “5”. The 5th New York Artillery would be actively engaged on July 2nd and 3rd on the field of Gettysburg engaging both enemy artillery positions and troops. Back marked out of Astor, New York.
