Really neat sixth plate tintype of this young New York infantryman. This young soldier doesn’t appear to be more than 16 or 17 years of age as he sits with a small smirk on his face. Dressed in his newly issued New York jacket and trousers. His cap rests on the table at his side. He is shown holding a large, black lacquered, book style photograph case in his hand. Based on it’s size it appears to have been a half plate size. On the cover is painted a landscape scene with trees and bushes and what appears to be a building or castle in the background. I have flipped the image of the case here to give a better view of the cover. Really cool image! Housed in a full leatherette case.
