Bartholomew Welch 3rd Vermont Volunteer Infantry ID Tag

$975

Item No. AR49675 Category

Description

Id tag belonging to Bartholomew Welch of the 3rd Vermont Volunteer Infantry. Working as a clothier, Bartholomew would enlist with the regiment in Hartford, Vermont in May, 1861. Later that year he would spend a short stint in the hospital during the month of October. He would do so again from September to December of 1862 when he would be granted to leave of absence for a period of 15 days. Presumably granted to allow Bartholomew to recover at home from his sickness. Scheduled to return on the 25th of January, he would never return and was reported as a deserter and was dropped from the roles. There doesn’t seem to be any record of him following January, 1863, so I think he probably died while at home but could find no record of this date of death. This is the eagle variant id disc. It is well worn so Bartholomew obviously wore this for an extended period of time. The reverse is stamped “B. Welch CO.F. 3rd REG. VT. VOLS. NORTHFIELD”. Nice and 100% correct id badge.
