Description
Sixth plate tintype of a well armed Federal cavalryman. He is photographed standing in front of the “Fort on the Hill” back drop used by photographer Ansel Butts at his Benton Barracks studio. Dressed in his cavalry uniform and knee high boots, he sports brass shoulder scales while displaying his M1858 Hardee hat in hand. Brass cavalry insignia can be seen pinned to the front of the cap along with the numeral “2”. His cavalry saber is displayed in front, still housed in the scabbard, while two large revolvers can be seen tucked into his M1851 eagle waist belt. This one is on the dark side as you can see. Housed in a full leatherette case.
