Description
Carte view of Colonel Thomas Franklin McCoy of the 107th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. A Mexican War veteran, McCoy would take a commission serving as colonel of the 107th in August, 1862. The 107th would see their fair share of fighting during the war, beginning with Cedar Mountain in August, 1862. The 2nd Battle of Bull Run, Cedar Mountain and Antietam, where the regiment slugged it out in the now famous “cornfield”, would all be fought that year. Fredericksburg would be fought in December and 1863 would see the regiment participating in the fights at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. The regiment would continue to fight on through 1864 with the battles of The Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House and Cold Harbor. In June they would take part in the first assault on Petersburg, Weldon Railroad and Boydton Plank Road. Lastly they would fight in the Appomattox Campaign and take part in the Grand Review in Washington. McCoy would receive a brevet to brigadier general in April, 1865. This view is irregularly trimmed. It does however bear a wonderful period ink inscription on the reverse from McCoy reading “Most Respectfully Your obd servt T. F. McCoy Col. 107 P. V.”.
