Description
Very nice sword belt hanger patented by J.E.B Stuart in 1859. Stuart later sold the rights to the patent to the US government and these became standard cavalry issue throughout the Civil War and the Indian Wars. The hanger made it easier to disconnect the sword from the belt when not in use. This example is in really nice shape. Retains all original brass hardware. Straps are folded and riveted. Snap hooks swivel. Leather is supple and has some light crazing. The keeper is inspector stamped “R.I.A.”
