Description
Sixth plate ambrotype of a Federal officer armed with a seldom seen Savage revolver. The revolvers were issued to a handful of cavalry regiments during the war, including the 1st and 2nd Wisconsin and this subject does appear to be wearing a Wisconsin blouse with large state buttons. A M1851 eagle sword belt rig is worn while his revolver is displayed across his chest and gripping his sword. His rank is difficult to determine, but at the very least he is a 1st lieutenant. Brass laurels are pinned to the front of his cap along with some other metallic device. Possibly a small state pin which Wisconsin regiments are known to have worn. This plate is cracked in two places, however they are very tight with no movement. Housed in a very nice, full leatherette case. Great shot of a seldom seen revolver!
