This is a superb ninth plate tintype of an unidentified rebel cavalryman. Dressed in this dark 7 button sack coat with cloth shoulder tabs and sporting a M1858 Hardee hat with one side pinned up and a large brass eagle pinned to the front. He is armed with a M1840 artillery saber which rests against his shoulder. A rare rectangular brass belt plate is worn with a star sown in the center. These are known to have been issued to a number of early Texas cavalry regiments. Sweet little image. It does come housed in a full leatherette case.
