Description

Ordinance receipt for items issued to Lieutenant George Nye of the 3rd Maine Volunteer Infantry. Issued while “In the field” on October 5, 1863 while the regiment was camped in Virginia. The invoice for items received include an Enfield musket and all the tools necessary to maintain the rifle as well as 40 rounds of ammunition. Also issued were a bayonet and scabbard, cartridge and cap box as well as a US waist belt and all the plates which accompanied the leather accouterments. George would serve from June of 1861 through June, 1864 and would achieve the rank of captain by the time of his discharge. No tears and easily legible with nice bold ink.
