Discharge certificate for Patrick Buckley of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Patrick would muster with the 1st Regiment Independent Mounted Rifle Ranger Pennsylvania Cavalry in August, 1861. They would subsequently become Company I of the 8th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry. These guys were busy as hell!! You name the battle and they were there. From Yorktown to Appomattox and every where in between and Patrick would be present for all of it. And survive unscathed by some miracle. He would be present for duty with the regiment from October, 1861 through September, 1863. Promoted to corporal on April 10, 1863, he would be reduced in rank back to private just 5 days later! Apparently he wasn’t officer material… His only absence from the regiment would be in October, 1863 when he remained behind to dismantle camp. Patrick and the rest of the men of the 8th would be mustered out in August, 1864. This one does come with his service records and well as some histroy on the 8th Pennsylvania.
