Description
Absolutely beautiful sixth plate ambrotype by famed Richmond photographer, Charles Rees. This is a wonderful example of his exceptional work in the field of photography. Seated pose of this young woman who was obviously from one of the wealthy families of Richmond. She wears this flowing and very large black silk gown with a scalloped white lace collar. A large gold cameo is worn at the neck line and several gold rings. Seated the chair used by Rees in many of his images, however this is the first example I have seen where he has tinted the back cushion a dark blue. This has the cherubs and pillars brass mat on it as well which I have only seen Rees use a handful of times. It does come housed in a thermoplastic case, however the top half has broken off from the hinges and is detached. Regardless a stunning example of the Richmond photographers exceptional work.
