Discharge certificate Alfred Underhill 33rd Indiana Infantry

1865 discharge certificate for Alfred Underhill of Indiana. Alfred would initially enlist with the 5th Indiana Volunteer Cavalry in August, 1862. One account states that he deserted on October 16, 1862. Another account registers Alfred as being muster out on that same date. Presumably it is the latter and there was merely a mix up with his discharge status. Regardless in March of 1865 he was then drafted into Company I of the 33rd Indiana Veteran Volunteer Infantry. He would service would be brief being mustered out of service that July. This one is dated July 21, 1865. It does come with a bunch of research and enlistment paperwork on the regiment.
