Discharge certificate for Thomas A. Thompson of the 42nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. At 18 years of age Thomas would muster with Company D of the 42nd Wisconsin Infantry at Madison, Wisconsin as a private on September 6, 1864. That November he would be detailed as a Provost Guard at Cairo, Illinois. He would serve in that role until March of 1865 when he would fall ill while on duty in Cairo. He would eventually succumb to the disease later that month on March 12th. This comes with complete service records.
