Vignette carte view of an old infantry soldier. Dressed in his frock and sporting this spectacular M1858 Hardee hat. The side is pinned up and a brass infantry horn is affixed to the front with an ostrich plume on the side. This view is not identified however it is back marked out of New Castle, Pennsylvania. A considerable number of men from New Castle joined the ranks of the 100th Pennsylvania Infantry “Round Heads” as well as the 13th Pennsylvania “Buck Tails”. Nearly 4000 men from the town of New Castle would serve during the 4 years of the war with approximately 500 never returning.
