Beautiful sixth plate clear glass ambrotype of this unidentified rebel 1st Sergeant. Seated pose of this infantryman as he peer’s into the camera lens with his piercing blue eyes. Dressed in this light grey or butternut jacket. The seam of the jacket being trimmed in black cloth tape which extends up and along the top edge of the collar. His 1st sergeants rank plainly visible on the upper arm of the jacket trimmed in black as well indicating his role in an infantry regiment. The jacket which is unbuttoned at the bottom exposes a vest made of the same material and a number of Goodyear buttons. The buttons of the jacket itself have all been gilded over rendering any identification impossible. Superb clarity and depth to this image. Seldom seen and highly desirable rank among Confederate images. Housed in a full leatherette case with a separated spine.
