Description

Nice close up view of a Federal infantryman. Sixth plate melainotype of this foot soldier dressed in his infantry frock. A US waist belt plate is worn with his cap box and bayonet visible which is housed in the scabbard. His cartridge box is worn over the shoulder with a nice, clear view of that breast plate and you can even see the leather piece which was used to hold the breast plate in place, poking out from behind the plate. A brass infantry horn is affixed to the top of the cap along with his regimental designation of “113”. Proudly displaying his P-53 Enfield, you get a wonderful side view of that popular Civil War firearm. Scratched into the back of the plate is simply the date “1862”. There were only three regiments with the designation of the 113th in service during the year of 1862. Those were from the states of Ohio, New York and Illinois. This one has a bit of surface wear. Housed in a half leatherette case.
