Description

Carte view of an unidentified member of the 12th New York State Militia. Dressed in a chasseur jacket, he wears the rank of regimental quartermaster. A chasseur cap is worn along with pantaloons and a pair of gaiters while sporting a two-piece militia plate and M1840 NCO sword. His overcoat can be seen thrown over the banister to his rear. The 12th New York would principally be engaged in occupation duties in the vicinity of Arlington Heights and Harpers Ferry from April of 1861 through August of that year. No back mark on this one.
