Nice little gold plated Woman’s Relief Corps badge dated 1883. The Women’s Relief Corps was an organization started by a group of women in1883 as an auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic, (GAR). The patriotic organization received Congressional recognition in September, 1962. At it’s height, it numbered over 100,000 members. This example has a brass top bar inscribed with the number “108” which would indicate the lodge number. The medallion portion of the badge is gold plated. The face of the badge is marked “W R C 1883”. The center is enameled in red, white and blue with the letters “F.C.L.” which represent, “Fraternity Charity Loyalty”. Overall this example is just an inch tall. It does retain the pinback.
