Description
Very nice reunion badge from the 2nd New Jersey Infantry. This is from the 8th annual reunion held on May 24, 1899. Featuring a suspension bar at top which reads “Second N.J. Vol” with the insignia for the 6th Corps. A silk US flag hangs from the bar with a celluloid featuring the likeness of Major James N. Duffy. James would serve as a major with the 2nd New Jersey until September, 1862, when he was discharged for a promotion and transferred over to the 3rd New Jersey Infantry where he would remain until being mustered out of service in mid 1864. The 2nd New Jersey would be held in reserve during the Battle of Bull Run in 1861 but would see plenty of fighting the following year beginning with the Peninsular Campaign. It would be followed up with Pope’s Campaign into Northern Virginia before Duffy transferred into the 3rd Infantry. Overall a very nice badge from a hard fought unit.
