Description
Beautiful double cased sixth plate tintypes of an unidentified member of the 2nd Pennsylvania Cavalry and his wife. Seated pose of this trooper dressed in his service jacket and sporting a pair of brass shoulder scales. Resting on the small table at his side, and partially obscured by the mat, sits a rare Pascal cap. This rare cap, rather disliked by almost every individual who wore it, were issued to members of the 2nd and 6th Pennsylvania Cavalry as well as portions of the 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry beginning in late 1861. The cap’s popularity was short lived, and it was replaced with a more functional piece of headgear by 1862. Brass cavalry insignia can be seen pinned to the front of the cap as well as the numeral “2”. There are other known images of the 2nd Pennsylvania Cavalry depicted wearing the cap as well. These two images are about as mint as you could hope for. Superb pair of images depicting this rare type of head gear and mounted in a full thermoplastic case.
