Description
Appointment document for Edward B. Rossiter, formerly of the 12th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Edward would muster as a sergeant with Company C. in June, 1861. The regiment would be hotly engaged at Fredericksburg and Edward would fall with a severe gunshot wound to the hip on December 13th, 1862. He would remain in a Washington hospital until July of the following year when he transferred into the Veteran Reserve Corps. Edward would be promoted to 2nd lieutenant in November, 1864. Dated June 10th of 1865 and written on Campbell U.S. Hospital letterhead. Edward writes to Assistant Adjutant General Samuel Chalfin acknowledging the receipt of his commission to 2nd lieutenant in the VRC. Mail traveled slow in those days.. Singed at bottom “Ed B. Rossiter 2nd Lt. 101 Co. 2nd Batt. V.R.C.”. No separation along the folds of this one. Very nice document.
