Description

Carte view identified as Captain Carroll Moore of Benton, Illinois. Moore would be commissioned into Company I in September, 1861. The regiment would participate in their first fight during the Battle of Belmont that November. They would take part in the fighting at Fort Donelson, Champion Hill, Big Black River and march victoriously into Vicksburg. Further fighting would be fought at Kennesaw Mountain, Atlanta, Jonesboro and during Sherman’s March to the Sea. Moore would be mustered out of service in January of 1865. This view shows the officer dressed in uniform and sporting his captains shoulder boards. A nice period ink inscription across the front bottom reads “C. Moore Capt Co. I”. No back mark on this one.
