Description
Post war cabinet card identified as Captain Francis Ritter Schmucker of the 128th Pennsylvania Infantry. Francis enroll at age 24 on the 6th of August and was mustered in at Harrisburg four days late as a first lieutenant with Company A. He would be present with the regiment at Antietam and was promoted to captain in February,1863, mustering out with his company at the end of their 9-month term of service in mid May, 1863. Francis would enroll once again at Reading, Pennsylvania on June 28th, 1863 as a first lieutenant owith Company C of the 42nd Regiment, Emergency Militia of 1863 in response to Lee’s invasion north. He was appointed Adjutant on 6 July and mustered out in August, 1863. Francis is shown here wearing the rank of lieutenant and his cap resting on the table with the numeral “128” visible on the front of the cap. Measures 6.5″ x 4″.
