Pair of two documents related to drummer Richard Saunders of the 1st Long Island Regiment. Richard would muster as a musician with “F” Company in December of 1861 at 18 years of age. Otherwise known as the 67th New York Infantry, they would initially serve in the defenses of Washington. Richard’s service would be brief. Just three months later he would be discharged for a disability in Washington itself. This grouping consists of his discharge, dated April 3, 1862 as well as his pay voucher bearing the same date.
