Item No. HA6567JR Category

Description

Sixth plate tintype of this unidentified Illinois volunteer.  There were several variations of the Illinois jacket, mainly due to multiple manufactures producing the uniform. The most common jacket issued to Illinois troops from 1861 – 1863, was dark blue in color, and featured 8 or 9 buttons. It also featured shoulder epaulets, and one or two belt loops. Some variants included a visible chest pocket, and some featured a round bottom, whereas others featured a squared front. This example features 8 buttons with the squared off front with a chest pocket and cloth shoulder tabs. This one is on the dark side but a nice example of the Illinois uniform. Housed in half leatherette case.
