Ninth plate ambrotype of a Maine volunteer. This is an early war, clear glass ambrotype with the black japanned tin backing. Nice early view of this infantryman dressed in his state issued, grey uniform and matching cap. A large brass letter “C” is pinned to the front of his cap while what are clearly Maine buttons, run down the front of the jacket. Nice little image from the state of Maine. Housed in a full leatherette case with a split spine.
