Item No. AR2007MF Category

Description

This is probably one of the most unique ivory pocket calendars I have ever seen! This example obviously belonged to a sailor. The front of the calendar bears the typical sterling shield with the letters “J L” engraved in cursive script. A Sperm whale has been carved into the cover of the calendar along with a triple-masted sailing vessel flying Old Glory. The reverse side of the calendar is engraved with numerous items which would have been a necessity for life at sea. A needle and thimble, mortar and pestle set, book, ink and pen and a drop spindle for spinning yarn. This one has all the pages intact with no cracks or chips in them. The last page is inscribed in old ink “Lulu Brown 647 N. 8th St.”. Really neat piece!
