Description
This is a beautifully tinted sixth plate tintype of a Federal cavalry trooper. Seated pose of this soldier dressed in his cavalry service jacket, which has been tinted a beautiful shade of blue and his cavalry trousers. Interestingly, he is armed with a light M1840 NCO’s saber. It does not appear to be a prop either as it is attached to the M1851 sword belt rig he wears. Not a very effective weapon when going into a cavalry charge. Presumably it was the only thing at hand while awaiting a more sturdy saber. Housed in a full thermoplastic case titled “The Hunter”. This is a very scarce case. Over all condition of the case is very good but the closer tab is broken. Sharp looking image!
