Description

Superb sixth plate ruby ambrotype of a well armed Federal infantryman. Seated pose, this infantryman sits dressed in his frock and Federal forage cap. A US waist belt is worn around the waist with a large frame Colt revolver tucked into the belt. He also displays an extremely rare, M1859 brass mounted, Sharps carbine. Only 3000 of these carbines were produced with the brass furniture. Possibly a member of the 13th Pennsylvania Infantry, otherwise known as the “Bucktails”, as they, along with Berdan’s Sharpshooters were issued Sharps carbines. Housed in a very nice “Monitor” patriotic case. Exceptional image!
