Description
Wonderful carte view of this Federal officer seated and enjoying a book. He sits very casually with legs crossed and resting on his arm while reading a book which lays in his lap. Clenching a cigar between his finger’s, he almost appears asleep. Dressed in a sack coat and wearing officers trousers, his forage cap rests on the table with the oil cloth worn over the cap. A period ink inscription on the reverse of the card reads, “Yours in upon Day”. Back marked out of Reading, Pennsylvania. Very interesting view.
