Item No. CV2929MF Category

Description

Carte view of a Federal officer identified as Captain Bridewell. I have researched this one multiple times and have been unable to locate anyone by that name that matches this rank. Dressed in a Federal frock, his shoulder boards display the rank of captain with “MS” in the center field for medical staff. He is obviously a surgeon but I can find no record of him. A period pencil inscription across the front bottom reads “Capt. Bridewell”. A period ink id on the reverse with the same id is written on the back. A modern pencil id on the reverse lists the image as a surgeon from an Illinois album. He is a mystery at this point. No back mark.
