Description
Nice little ninth plate ambrotype of what I assume to be a former bugler with cavalry or artillery regiment. Dressed in a service jacket, very faint horizontal lines can be seen across the entire front of the jacket. At some point, the horizontal trim that was running across the front of this jacket was removed, leaving these faint lines where the trim was once affixed. The jacket does still retain the dark color trim, but for some reason, the herringbone trim has been removed. Additionally, very large domed buttons can be seen running the front of the jacket. Typically, with the Federal issue service jackets, we would see much smaller, eagle buttons associated with this jacket. Whether this subject is wearing some type of state issued jacket or possibly even a Confederate soldier, I cannot say with certainty. It is however not the typical musicians jacket we normally see. This one comes housed in a full leatherette case.
