Description
Wonderful portrait of a number of veterans, wives and their family members photographed in 1896 at the High Water Mark. There are 5 veterans shown here, wearing various types of GAR badges. Many of the woman are displaying veterans badges as well in this view. This came from the estate of James Casey of the 42nd New York Volunteer Infantry. Casey would lose an arm on July 3rd during the fight at Gettysburg. He would recover from the wounding and go on to fight nearly until the end of the war! I am not sure if in fact in this view or not. Of the men visible, two of them are not in complete view to ascertain if they are in fact missing an arm. This one is by Tipton. Measures 9.5″ x 7.5″. Great early Gettysburg view taken at this iconic monument.
