Description
Spectacular half plate ambrotype of a Federal 1st lieutenant. Full standing pose of this well dressed officer. Sporting a pair of brilliant white gauntlets, he holds his saber in his hand which has been drawn from the scabbard. 1st lieutenant’s rank can been seen worn on the shoulders with his cap displaying the numeral “35” within the center of the infantry insignia. The officer is posed in front of this back drop depicting a prairie scene, which has been associated with those serving in the Western Theater. It has been speculated that this is possibly George Burmeister of the 35th Iowa Infantry who was killed at Yellow Bayou in May of 1864, however I cannot confirm that. This ne does have a crack running diagonally in the lower right corner. Housed in a half case. Great image despite the crack!
