Item No. AR2953SM Category

Description

Superb 2nd Corps badge identified to Private Philip Tully of “B” Company. An Irish immigrant, Philip would initially muster with the famed 5th New York Infantry, more affectionately known as the Duryee’s Zouaves in September, 1862. A late arrival to the regiment, with it’s members being discharged in the spring of 1863, Philip would transfer into the 69th New York Infantry in June of that year. He would be detailed as a teamster and would serve in that role until his re-enlistment as a veteran volunteer in December. Following his re-enlistment, Philip would be detailed as a nurse at the 2nd Corps Hospital located at City Point, Virginia. He would remain there until his discharge at Alexandria, Virginia in June, 1865. This example is carved from bone and represents the 2nd Corps insignia in which Philip served.  The front is carved “Co. B 69th N.Y.V. PVT. P. Tully”. Within the center of the badge is a second carved 2nd Corps insignia with the lettering painted in black and the overall badge shaded in red to signify the 1st Division. Additionally, 3 small holes are drilled into the badge to allow for the badge to be sewn onto either the cap or his coat. Measures about 1 3/4″ across.
