Description

Very nice carte view identified as John Wieting of the 153rd Illinois Volunteer Infantry. John would muster in February, 1865 with Company C. The regiment would be sent to Tennessee where it served guarding the Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad and garrison duty at Memphis. John along with the rest of the regiment would be discharged in September, 1865. John is seen here wearing his infantry frock with a 5th Corps badge pinned to the breast of the coat. A Lincoln mourning ribbon can also be seen worn on the sleeve of the jacket. A period pencil id on the reverse reads “Johnathon Wieting”. No back mark on this one.
