Description
Early war letter written by Lafayette Sullivan of the 1st Rhode Island Regiment otherwise known as the 67th New York Infantry. Written from Camp Temple, Washington, D.C. in September, 1861. Lafayette had mustered at a musician with the regiment the month prior. He would serve until April, 1862. The letter speaks of camp life, seeing the famed Duryee’s Zouaves, a review by the general and president and general happenings. Wonderful signature on the reverse reading “Direct to Lafayette Sullivan. Musician. 1st Long Island Volunteers. Col. Adams. Wash. D.C.“. Three pages written in nice bold ink. Very legible. No tears to this one.
