Description
Rare miniature locket photo album. This one is in the shape of a suitcase although I have seen similar examples in the shape of a book. Measures 7/8 x 3/4 inch and made of gold gilded brass. A small brass clasp keeps the album closed. Inside are nine brass leaves hinged in a concertina fold. Each leaf with an albumen-print portrait on either side, within an oval frame. A total of 13 portraits are contained within this example. Some very minor tarnishing, else about fine. The images portray some of the war’s most well known political leaders and generals. The likes of Abraham Lincoln, Halleck, Sheridan, Grant, Stephens and several others are displayed once completely folded out. Unlike most of these which are just the locket itself, this one still retains the original chain and clasp. Superb and very hard to find example!
