Description
Sixth plate tintype of this elderly Federal soldier. Dressed in his infantry frock, he displays his McDowell pattern cap in his hand. He appears to be well into his late 60’s or even older with a head of grey hair and grey beard. Well past his soldiering days. Beautiful clarity to this view. It’s a very simple pose but rather appealing to the eye. An inscription inside the case in period pencil reads, “My beloved brother”. Unfortunately no further information about the old soldier is known. This one appears to have gotten wet a very long time ago and the reverse of the plate is heavily rusted. Housed in a half case.
