Description
Very nice sixth plate melainotype of either an early war or slightly pre-war New Jersey artilleryman. This came out of a Chatham, New Jersey estate sale. Unfortunately there was no identity attributed to the man. Full standing view of this gunner dressed in this dark jacket with cloth shoulder tabs and scalloped cuff trim which has been tinted red. Matching trousers also exhibit a wide red stripe running down the trouser leg. Leaning on the large pedestal at his side, he holds a McDowell pattern cap in his hand. Nice blueish-green tint to the large curtain. Additionally he sports a militia style belt plate with the face of the plate displaying a large “E” indicating his company affiliation. This one does come housed in a full leatherette case.
