Description
Early war sixth plate melainotype of this unidentified Confederate officer from the state of North Carolina. Dressed in a triple breasted grey frock outfitted with a whopping 27 North Carolina starburst buttons!! Most of the buttons have been gilded over but there are a couple that are actually visible. The photographer has applied shoulders straps in gold gilt although no actual shoulder straps are being worn. Perhaps a newly appointed officer before he had received his lieutenant’s rank. A massive sash is worn around the waist which has been tinted a slight shade of red with his cap, which is held in hand, tinted a light blue. This view has been published in More Confederate Faces, Volume 3, on page 91. Housed in a half case.
