Description
Studio pose of a Pennsylvania artilleryman. This subject wears the rank of sergeant as indicated by the dark chevrons visible on the sleeve and his striped NCO trousers. His cap is worn with the rain cover in place. This one has a modern ink in on the reverse that dates to around the 1970’s that reads “Grandad Shank Civil War”. I briefly attempted to locate him but had no luck. Back marked out of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Presumably one of the troops raised in response to Lee’s move north.
