Possible 4th Michigan Infantry and a Canadian Cap

$250

Item No. HA7991LM Category

Description

Sixth plate tintype of a unidentified Federal infantryman. Seated pose, he is dressed in a sack coat and sporting a red fez with a yellow tassel. It is very plausible that we are looking at a member of the 4th Michigan Infantry. During the early summer and fall of 1861, the regiment would wearing what was known as the “Canadian Cap” or fez. Most notably, the iconic image of Private Richard Cramer of the 4th Michigan Infantry, photographed at Henry House Hill during the early stages of the war. There are numerous known photos of men from the regiment dressed in red fez’s and four button sack coats. Regardless of his regimental affiliation, still a neat image. Housed in a half case.
