Description
This is a wonderful example of a c.1850 die-stamped brass eagle waist belt plate. This stock militia panel plate was available for purchase militia units in the 1850s. It employed a general patriotic design, an eagle facing right, with spread wings, surrounded by 12 stars. They were originally supplied to units in both the north and the south. Constructed of rectangle rolled brass, die struck, relatively sturdy plate. The tongue and keeper is intact on this one. Very nice plate!
