Description

War date letter written by private George Virtue of the 7th Minnesota Infantry to his Captain Theodore Carter. George would muster with “K” company in August of 1862 but would be discharged for a medical disability the following March. The letter written by George, dated April 2, 1864 and sent from Cleveland, Ohio, is asking assistance from Captain Carter for help in receiving the pay he is due for his time serving in the Army. After sending the proper documents to Saint Paul, the paymaster had refused to pay George his due wages stating that the papers he sent were not correct and the proper information was not supplied. The letter written in ink, is just over a page in length and is extremely legible and well written. This one is very easy to read. It does come with the original cover as well.
