Description
Rare sixth plate melainotype of an unidentified West Point cadet. Wonderful image of this well dressed cadet as he sits with one arm resting on the table beside him. Dressed in the unmistakable West Point grey coatee adorned with ball buttons. Unfortunately this particular cadet is currently unidentified. I did get in touch with the West Point Archives department and they were gracious enough to search through the classes of 1860 and 1861 but were unable to locate him. Being that this is a melainotype, I would suspect he graduated from an earlier class just prior to 1860. Great research project. There is a very good possibility that he joined the Confederacy at the outbreak of war as many West Point graduates did. Housed in a full thermoplastic case.
