Description

Interesting, ninth plate, clear glass ambrotype. This blue-eyed soldier sports a grey jacket with black cloth shoulder tabs and what appear to be state buttons. His affiliation is not entirely clear as units both north and south wore similar uniforms. A very unique accessory to the uniform he wears is this rare M1833 forage cap. First issued to the regular army in 1833, they saw use during the Seminole War and Texas Revolution. I think this is only the second time I have ever seen one appear in a photograph. No doubt a surplus relic left over from decades before. This one comes housed in a  full leatherette case.
