Description
Absolutely stunning pre-war ninth plate ruby ambrotype of this unknown artilleryman. I’m usually not a fan of these portraits with the dark back drop, but this one is the exception. The clarity of this image is magnificent. Dressed in double breasted great coat with a tall collar trimmed in red. The clarity of the buttons is exceptional with the eagle on the face of the buttons visible to the naked eye. A buff white US two-piece militia belt plate is worn while displaying a M1840 saber. The light is just absolutely glistening off the sword and bright brass pommel. A wide red stripe runs down the trouser seam as well. The name of “Chamberlain” is written inside the case along with the numeral “147”. Housed in a full case with a split spine. Just an all around stunning image!
