Description
This is an absolutely wonderful G.A.R. ribbon from Post 421 located in West Stockholm, New York. This example is actually double sided with two ribbons back to back. The front exhibits a blue silk ribbon which hangs from a celluloid suspension bar displaying two US flags. The ribbon reads “CAPT. GIBSON POST, NO. 421 G.A.R. WEST STOCKHOLM, N.Y.”. The reverse side exhibits a black silk ribbon with identical lettering and a celluloid with a view of a G.A.R. medal. The Captain Gibson which is referenced on the ribbon would be Captain Warren Gibson of the 16th New York Infantry who resided in Stockholm. Gibson would be commissioned a captain with Company H in May of 1861. He would be severely wounded the followed June when a bullet struck him in the right eye Gaines Mill of the 27th of June. He would receive a medical discharge that October. Super nice ribbon in like new condition!
